Theater District Open House

Volunteers are needed to help Theater District Open House visitors learn more about Houston Grand Opera and the Wortham Theater Center.

Are you a Wortham Center expert? We need volunteers who can serve as docents at the Open House, talking to visitors and answering questions in the Green Room, Founders Boxes, star dressing rooms, and Brown stage. You will be able to perform your duties while seated and will be given a list of talking points..

Are you a natural entertainer with a good knowledge of opera and the upcoming season? We need outgoing volunteers to interact with the crowd and spark their interest in opera and Guild activities. You'll need a sense of humor and the ability to think on your feet.

Even if you don’t think you fit into any of the above categories, we have a place for you! We need

Tour supervisors, starters, and direction spotters
Volunteer supervisors and people for the volunteer support area
Volunteers to hand out materials at the Art Car (outside)
Food and beverages for the volunteers (all contributions are appreciated – even if you are unable to work)

Two shifts are available:

11 AM to 2 PM
1:30 PM to 4 PM

The uniform of the day will be the Guild’s “Wild about Opera” t-shirt. The Guild will supply a t-shirt to any volunteer who doesn’t already have one and will provide refreshments throughout the afternoon.
