Neighborhood
Ambassadors

The Neighborhood Ambassadors bring potential audience and supporters from outside the immediate downtown/arts area to the Opera. They encourage participants to take the next step with the Opera, whether that step is going to an opera for the first time, purchasing season tickets, joining the Guild, volunteering, or making a donation.

Each Ambassador, based on his knowledge of the neighborhood, works with the Neighborhood Ambassadors Coordinator (Lanie Brown) to develop programs which will reach potential audience and supporters. Programs can include home publicity/informational events with HGO guest speakers and group outings with HGO VIP treatment.

In its second year, the Ambassadors Program (led by Lanie Brown) put on 19 events in outlying areas of Houston. HGO worked closely with the Ambassadors to provide guest speakers, arrange group ticket sales, and provide VIP perks for the 357 people who attended these events. The program brought more than 200 people to the opera this year from Kingwood, Atascocita, Wilchester, and other neighborhoods throughout Houston, and was the largest single source of group sales for HGO. At the annual meeting of Opera Volunteers International in July, the Ambassadors Program will be honored as a Project of Special Merit.
