As hosts to Houston Grand Opera’s singers, directors, designers, conductors, and others of the artistic team, the hosts and alternates of the Houston Grand Opera Guild play a strategic role in welcoming our artists to Houston and helping them form favorable impressions of both HGO, and Houston. Our hosts are an integral part of HGO’s appeal to its artists. The hospitality that you offer our guests may instill in them a fondness for Houston and a desire to return to work at HGO in future seasons. There is always the opportunity to develop long-term friendships with world-renowned artists. The Artist Hospitality Committee has been recognized as likely unique in the execution of its programs, and definitely as one of the best in the nation.
The Guild Artist Hospitality and Assistance Program is specifically tailored to provide visiting artists help in things that will ease their stay, and personally welcome them to Houston.
This may include:
❖ airport transportation for arrival and departure
❖ airport transportation for artist family who may be coming at a different time
❖ basic snacks/groceries upon arrival, or a welcome bottle of wine
❖ recommendation of activities for children, finding child-related items
❖ assist in renting a tuxedo, finding a formal dress, etc.
❖ recommendations for local restaurants, activities, or venues
❖ initial transport to the market, drug store, or car rental agency
❖ introduction to various parts of town; the Museum District, Medical Center, Galleria, and Sports venues.
❖ a lunch, dinner, or a event with your host, at your leisure
The best time to join a hospitality team is at the Volunteer Gathering.
