Neighborhood Ambassadors bring potential audience and supporters from outside the immediate downtown/arts area to Houston Grand Opera. They plan events that encourage participants to take the next step towards connecting with HGO, whether that step is attending an opera performance for the first time, purchasing season tickets, joining the HGO Guild, volunteering, or making a donation.
Each ambassador, based on his knowledge of the neighborhood, works with HGO to develop programs that will reach potential audience and supporters. These programs are scheduled three or four times a year at a time of day appropriate for the participants. Currently, one neighborhood group meets in the morning for coffee; another meets in the evening. Programs can include home informational events with HGO guest speakers and group outings with HGO VIP treatment.
If you are enthusiastic about introducing your friends and neighbors to opera, this might be a great volunteer opportunity for you. Neighborhood Ambassadors arrange with the HGO liaison for a speaker, send invitations via email or conventional mail, and host the event, including providing light refreshments. These tasks usually take less than 10 hours for each program.
If you would like to be a Neighborhood Ambassador, you will be invited to an existing program to see what it is like and you will be guided through the first event you host.
